BANGLADESH INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION CENTRE
The Institution for Alternative Dispute Resolution
BIAC is Bangladesh’s first and only, licensed and registered Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) institution. It is registered as a not-for-profit organization and commenced operation in April 2011. International Chamber of Commerce – Bangladesh (ICC-B), the world business organization along with Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) Dhaka and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) established BIAC. Core activities of BIAC include providing facilities for arbitration & mediation and organising training and awareness programmes. It published its Arbitration and Mediation Rules in 2012 and 2014 respectively. BIAC has its own panel of Arbitrators and a list of Mediators. Apart from facilitating arbitration and mediation, BIAC has so far signed cooperation agreements with 12 international ADR centres for excellence in the region and with 19 corporate and financial institutions in Bangladesh. Chairman of the BIAC Board is Mr. Mahbubur Rahman while the Chief Executive Officer is Mr. Muhammad A. (Rumee) Ali.
About IICA- Accreditation and Nodal Agency:
Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) has been established by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India for capacity building and training in various subjects related to corporate regulation and governance. The Institute has also set up specialised Centres of Excellence in various areas such as Business Innovation, e-Governance, Corporate Governance and Corporate Law and Regulation. A few of the key objectives of IICA are setting up a state-of-the-art Knowledge Management Services system for research and dissemination of knowledge to various stakeholders in the corporate sector, catalysing appropriate regulatory and service delivery responses on the basis of changing national and global business environment and training and capacity building of officials of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and its attached bodies and organisations.
Purpose of the Training Programme
The Training emphasises conflict management, negotiation and mediation skills as important tools essential in successfully leading and managing a team or a group of individuals. This Programme will provide the opportunity to explore these crucial skill requirements. The course is intensive and mentored, spans over a period of 6 days involving role play activities, assessment and stress management techniques. It will facilitate participants not only in obtaining internationally practiced dispute resolution skills but also essential managerial skills that will assist them in carrying out day to day operations involving internal and external parties in dispute. On successful completion of the Training, the participants’ expertise in their respective fields can help them resolve disputes more fairly and expeditiously as Mediators.
Who should attend?
No prior experience in mediation is necessary for participating in this course.
